FAQQuestions and Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Do I need to call / email ahead before sending my items? +

A: If you are in need of Orthopedic work, or have items to be dyed and/or reconditioned, it would definitely be a good idea to contact us before shipping your items. We can not be responsible for your shipping costs if you send an item and we can’t perform the work you request. Please contact us about any items you are not sure about.

  • Q: Why do my high heel tips wear out so fast? +

A: High heels really don’t provide enough surface area to walk on, so that tiny tip has to take a lot more punishment than a larger heel would. The tips are designed to be replaceable because the manufacturers know they won’t last long.

  • Q: What kind of warranty can I expect on work performed by Caniglias? +

A: We guarantee that our work is performed correctly, and we will be happy to correct any situation where a  repair was done incorrectly or incompletely. Due to the varied materials and processes involved in footwear and garment manufacturing, we cannot guarantee the following:

    • Stretching
    • Gluing
    • Dyeing

We try to be very upfront about the chances of a repair or alteration not coming out well, and we ask that you take these disclaimers into consideration. Our goal is to create repeat customers, not unhappy ones.

  • Q: How long will my new soles/heels/stitching/etc. last? +

A: Most of the repairs we do are for things that are worn out. There is no way to predict the conditions and treatment a particular item is going to be exposed to. We use the highest quality materials we can for all of our repairs, and we have found that in many cases our repairs outlast the original materials.

  • Q: Why should I use your services, aren’t all repair places the same? +

A: There are profound differences between repair shops. Many facilities are not equipped with a full range of machinery, use cheap materials, and simply don’t take pride in a job well done. Here at Caniglia's Repair, it doesn’t matter to us if you shop at Saks 5th Avenue, or Walmart; we take the time to match colors and materials as closely as possible, and provide repairs that blend in and last.

  • Q: My tailor can’t stitch thru leather/canvas, do you guys do alterations? +

A: We can do minor alterations such as; hemming leather chaps, zipper replacement, and making boot shafts wider/narrower. More extensive alterations should be set up by your tailor, and then we can stitch the seams together to finish the job.

  • Q: Do you work on “Brand X” (footwear/handbags/luggage/etc)? Is my item too inexpensive/valuable to work on? +

A: We work on all brands and price ranges.
